M400 Tread Review - We all know Sig Sauer, especially for their pistols. However, their guns are an entirely different beast. For a long time, I let their big guns slip under my radar. That was until a friend of mine asked me about the Sig Sauer M400 Tread, an AR-15 ready to bring gun owners to the platform as well as offer a base price. It has a cool name and sounds a little funky, but is that all Sig Sauer said it was? Read to find out.
Aj is mostly a beautiful gun. I'm still undecided about my opinion on the handguard that only has MLOK sockets on the front half. The M400 is super modular, so swapping it out is a no-brainer, but I feel like it should be included rather than separate. It also doesn't include out-of-the-box sights, which has always been a disappointment with every company I buy from. The tread is an entry level rifle, it should be ready right out of the box.

My First Ar Is A Sig Sauer M400 Tread. Heard Good Things. Bad Things. But I Love It!
I will say that the Tread is incredibly accurate out of the box. I tossed one of my red dots at him, zeroed it in, and started pounding nails while sitting on the bench. The stance widened the band a bit, but shots were still easy to hit.
To test the longer ranges, I put on the LPVO and got to work. I got similar results, but it looks like my rifle shooting could use some practice at 100 yards. I noticed that the groups are one inch and alternate and do not include leaflets. Including outliers, it opens shot groups up to 2-3 inches which I'd say is still pretty solid.
I doubt if Tread is reliable because I'm not 100% convinced. I had a few issues with the cheaper ammo, but the higher quality brass ammo went well. After a few hundred rounds, the M400 started to fire flawlessly regardless of ammo type.
It should also be noted that a series of accessories are available specifically for the M400 tread. It is very modular and is definitely geared towards those learning about the AR-15 or just starting out.
Top Six Ar 15s For Under A Grand
The Sig Sauer M400 Tread is a very solid rifle. Legit you can find for less than $800. Only this point is not significant. It certainly fits the bill for someone looking to get their first AR-15 for under a grand. It's not perfect, but it's cheap, easy to learn/understand, and it works. In this price range, I don't know what else you want. Personally, I build mine to experience it and learn better how my gun works, but it's not for everyone. And that's where the Sig Sauer M400 tread comes in.

Impressed at first glance, I was ready to take the training course and find out if this rattlesnake-inspired carbine could stand up to its defensively optimized namesake.
To start the 100 yard bench test I worked with the ROMEO5 optic. Zeroing the tread required minimal effort and I was immediately impressed with how smooth and smooth this carabiner is. Taking the TREAD through a wide range of competition and field practice conditions, the sharp trigger was easy to control and I was able to get my groups under two inches regularly.
For the short reach and faster performance tested there, the narrow rail design really contributed to the accuracy of the movement. Another feature of the four groove design on the journal greatly improved my gripping ability and together these features helped with overall stability during high speed drilling work. The lower bulk and weight, with added texture in the grip, allowed me to focus on pulling the trigger and aiming (as well as avoiding falling on my face), and the results were consistent.
Sigsauer Ar 15 M400 Tread: A Cut Above At A Cut Rate Price
The long course and short range work was a long day of shooting with no feeding or shooting all day. Short track was a more challenging environment for this SBR and I inevitably found the answer to my curiosity about heat. All my fingertips survived, but the fence is very hot when you're busy. Gloves are a must for anyone who is going to do any faster shooting work. All in all, after over 1200 rounds a day with different weights and brands, I was very pleased with the stability of the TREAD.
For most of the short-range testing at ten to twenty-five yards, I stuck with the TREAD line of accessories, ditching the optics for TREAD Iron Sights, and working mostly with SigSauer 60G HT ammo. I honestly can't tell you how happy I am with this small AR/pistol with its light weight and smooth handling. The Magpul SL-K stock was comfortable on both the shoulder and the cheek. With two QD sockets on the bottom, chain mounts are easy with the option to add another MLOK point along the top. Small dimensions go well with less weight and beautiful appearance. Delivering a consistent shot, with a fast trigger and an easy-to-manipulate magazine on both sides, this gun makes traversing fast lanes a breeze. Its fit, style and performance consistency make it a weapon you'll feel comfortable with for the first time on the course.
Equipped with a single stage/hard trigger, let's say...a weak spot on TREAD's resume. On a long tour, the weight tested 6.5 was a bit of a hindrance to getting the groups where I wanted. In the short term, it was very easy to work with this intense feeling. Smooth, with a quick reset and little grit, this trigger is satisfying. I would probably recommend the upgrade for the persnickety, but any first time carbine owner will be satisfied.
A thirty-round magazine is included with the TREAD, and the dual features are best understood with reloading drills. My fiddling with left-handed practice has enhanced my enjoyment of the SigSauer's ambidextrous magazine, easily accessible from either side of the grip. Not too far out of reach, and by slightly adjusting the depth of the right lever to avoid interference with the trigger finger, the Sig delivered on what it promised, a weapon that would fit everyone, no matter what your hand or hand size. Equal to its short barrel AR/Pistol counterparts, the TREAD has an overall length of 30.8 inches. Custom fitment with a smaller frame is simple and effortless thanks to the adjustable stock. The weapon is designed for use in any situation, and the forged aluminum lower section, reinforced with a spring tension pin for a tighter, vibration-free connection to the upper section, allows for a lighter and more comfortable overall weapon. Comfortable and easy to grip, recoil management is not a big deal for this carbine. With a free-floating barrel under a very thin rail, it's easy to secure this rigid surface to reduce barrel roll. Unlike other M4 models, the TREAD has a decent-sized gas port on its medium-length barrel and stays flat when fired.
A straight-action AR15, with a mid-length gas system and a 16-inch 1:8 radiating barrel, the TREAD is almost entirely a double-action weapon with many features not usually available to left-handed shooters at this price point. The ambidextrous magazine safety and release, each well designed for ease of use without getting in the way on either side, is a well-thought-out feature set. Considering all of the features and the overall quality of the TREAD's feel in my hands, it's remarkable that it costs so much less than $1,000. Yes, you read it right, this weapon is not only higher, but also has the same price as last year's Honda. The SigSauer M400 TREAD is valued at a suggested retail price of $951 and can usually be purchased for $799. To be honest, this may be partly because you're hoping to load up on the TREAD line of accessories to customize your AR, but you really can't beat it.
