We have many air displays, including Tora, Tora, Tora, P-51 Mustang, F/A-18 Super Hornet, US Army Black Daggers and MiG-17. Our visitors can visit a variety of static exhibits. One of the aircraft you can see is the C-17 Globemaster III, which is the Air Force's newest, lightest aircraft. We recommend that visitors arrive via Metrolink. Visitors can take the MetroLink train to the Shiloh-Scott station, where free shuttle buses will take you to the airport line for the show. When you choose to drive, whether you are coming from Interstate 64 and exiting at Exit 19A or coming from Illinois Route 161, all drivers are directed to a set of entry gates. While most members of military families make base housing theirs, some choose to live in nearby communities. The nearby communities of Belleville, Fairview Heights, O'Fallon, Mascoutah and Shiloh provide housing, jobs and other services for Scott's military families. Scott AFB is located in a low-cost area, so rental housing and real estate are affordable.
The city of Belleville is 10 miles west of Scott AFB. The city has a population of about 40,900. Belleville is home to Our Lady of the Snows National Shrine, one of the largest outdoor shrines in North America. More than a million people visit the 200-acre outdoor Marian sanctuary each year. Belleville has an arts center, an amphitheater, a dog park, bike and walking trails, and many public parks.
The town of Fairview Heights is located west of O'Fallon and west of Scott AFB. It is a growing community of approximately 16,300 people. The city has a golf course, many restaurants and shopping centers, and many public parks. The 90-acre Moody Park hosts many events throughout the year, including two playgrounds, playgrounds and courts, recreational trails, picnic areas, and more.
