The M777 Howitzer is a towed 155mm howitzer manufactured by BAE Systems. Entered service in 2005, the weapon is used by the US Army and Marine Corps; Australia Canada India Used by Saudi Arabia and, more recently, Ukrainian forces in particular. It only manned the earlier M198 Howitzer, requiring nine guns, and was about 3,000 kg lighter, making it easier to transport and deploy. My initial impression of the kit was very good. It comes nicely packaged in a hard box and 50 odd parts in a zip lock bag. The kit can be completed in assembly or transport mode and includes components for both setups. Mr Vargas put a lot of detail into this model and the result clearly shows what is possible with modern 3D printing.
Larger parts show the layers that result from the printing process that smooths injection molded products. Modelers with OCD may get frustrated trying to sand these .25mm(?) ridges without disturbing the adjacent details. (I'll see how much it shows after painting).
A necessary consequence of 3D printing is that there are various risers or supports for parts that aren't directly on the print table, but once you actually touch the part, they're thin and thin, and worlds away from injection molding and are much easier and cleaner. I was a little disappointed here, but impressed. There are no instructions to explain the colors to use, but at least a few places online say that the gun is either NATO green or desert tan, depending on the scene it's in. There were no illustrations of the kit, so I looked online and saw some guns with black muzzle brakes and the names of retired Marines emblazoned on them. There should also be a serial number plate next to the frame of the gun. If any industrious modelers know of a way to represent this, I'd be glad to hear it.
